Guest Vance Perkins, the president of the DeQuincy Railroad Museum Board of Directors, joins hosts Brady and Anna on Louisiana’s Playground to discuss the railroad industry’s impact on the town of DeQuincy, Louisiana. DeQuincy is located in the northern part of Calcasieu Parish and is the home to the DeQuincy Railroad Museum and the Louisiana Railroad Days Festival. Perkins touches on the founding of DeQuincy, the impact the museum still has today, and the thrills of its annual festival. 


Vance Perkins is the President of the DeQuincy Railroad Museum Board of Directors. He’s been in that role for the last two years after serving on the board for nearly a decade. Perkins is a DeQuincy native and history buff that also shares his passion and knowledge as a writer for the local DeQuincy newspaper. 


After a successful decade in Sulphur, owner Shane Nelson, a DeQuincy native, moved Coconut’s Cajun Grill and opened its doors in DeQuincy in January of 2021. The bar and grill has a robust menu with boiled and fried seafood, cajun cuisine, daily specials, burgers and a fully stocked bar. Coconuts prides itself on its homemade appetizers, entrees, desserts, and the entertainment it offers guests, like karaoke on Fridays.
